It is with sincere condolences to convey that Dr. Leslie J. “Les” Sandlow, a noted Chicago physician and medical educator, passed away on July 26, 2021. Dr. Sandlow was instrumental in the founding of the Foxglove Alliance (FGA) as a member of the leadership of four of the FGA founding institutions, the Hektoen Institute of Medicine, the Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) and the Michael Reese Research and Education Foundation and the Portes Foundation.
Dr. Sandlow spent more than 35 years affiliated with the Michael Reese Hospital where he eventually became the head of graduate medical education. He later transitioned to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine where he served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic & Educational Affairs and was also the Head of the Department of Medical Education there.
He received numerous awards and accolades in his career including the Portes Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award and the Chicago Medical School Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also a long-term IOMC Billings Society Fellow.
His mentorship and knowledge will be greatly missed by the FGA membership.
