June 13, 2024
The Foxglove Alliance (FGA) announced today that the Academy of Medical – Surgical Nurses – Chicago Chapter # 317 (AMSN-CC # 317) has joined the burgeoning coalition of Chicago area public healthcare organizations which will now have 16 official members. Per the national organization’s website, “the AMSN is the only professional association for medical-surgical nurses, supporting nurses throughout their professional careers, from nursing school through certification.”
This signifies the AMSN-CC # 317 as an official member of the FGA but it has worked on numerous projects with the members in its other role as the Hektoen Nurses and the Humanities Program. The Hektoen Institute of Medicine sponsors that program and the FGA.
Mary Ann McDermott, a Hektoen Institute board member and founder of the nurse’s humanities program said, “it has been my pleasure to collaborate with the AMSN- CC # 317 on increasing the awareness of Nurses and the Humanities through creative programming and events. I look forward to AMSN- CC # 317 joining Foxlove Alliance.” FGA coordinator Levi Moore added, “this is a natural fit. This new FGA member already serves as a co-host of the FGA’s Community Pulse television show with Hektoen and the Health Care Council of Chicago and aligns with the youth pathway component of our More Minorities in Medical Research campaign.”
According to Cora Palmer, “the Chicago Chapter # 317 of the Academy of Medical- Surgical Nurses are excited and look forward to advancing the mission and values of AMSN and the Foxglove Alliance.” Tacora Love added, “both organizations goals and objectives align; we are energized and ready to continue serving and educating the community.”
The FGA coalition is dedicated to improving public health in the Chicago metropolitan area through collaborations to develop new initiatives and programs, convene networking & educational events, engage in issue identification/resolution and conduct outreach and public awareness activities. The reach of the FGA members is vast and is collectively connected to 200+ non-profit, for-profit, government and social enterprise entities in Chicago.
